There are people who are against putting up a steel net on both sides of the bridge as it will ruin the aesthetics!
How can people compare even one persons life, to the aesthetics of an iron bridge?
It may be one of the most iconic places in the world but not everyone is travelling there just for the view. As of Oct 2003, over 1,200 people have travelled to the Golden Gate Bridge to end their life.
In other places around the world barriers have been proven to improve the suicide rate like the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building.
The bridge has a suicide hotline but clearly this isn't enough. There needs to be more done to deter people from jumping.
