Picture this. I enter a newsagent and picked up Australia's biggest selling read, the Sunday morning Herald. I was not warned that I would look down at the pile and see a photo of me and my two favourite humans on earth, my brother and sister. Front page for millions of people to read, an article suggesting I failed in saving my siblings life?!
I was told by the reporter it may make the paper expecting something small buried in amongst thousands of articles. I nearly dropped, FRONT PAGE!!! I never wanted my story on the table but in hope of helping awareness, to assist the charities I volunteer for and to hopefully save lives.. So I agreed?? This was before our FTW movement had began raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for Suicide Prevention Australia and before we started screaming our distressed war cries for more help from the government and the people. That article triggered action and put the topic in everyones face. A Revolution began and momentum for change started to spike. Many people do not remember when that time was when we finally got suicide prevention as flavour of the month in the media and got the wheels turning and brought on an awakening to the masses. Im not saying we created the change ourselves, it was many services like Beyond Blue, Suicide Prevention Aust ect. We started getting listened to. This post is showing the necessary individual sacrifice that is needed to be the change. To this day FTW or myself have still NEVER drawn a wage! IT ISNT ABOUT MONEY BUT WE NEED IT TO PROGRESS!! Everyone talks about awareness now but we wanna see actions behind words. Every organisation in this sector means well but actions speak louder than words. If you see or wear our FTW flag always remember that in honour of those fallen we are not only acknowledging them but we are in the trenches side by side with our fellow battlers. Our non discriminating family welcomes all! Our money all goes towards suicide prevention action! This shockingly terrifying article sparked something that day, it sparked an idea that has evolved to save many lives and with our free world wide app WE WILL SAVE THOUSANDS MORE. No sympathy please!
This is just a huge moment in time for me. It's time everyone's stories come to the table. Your turn, we got ya back, Promise FTW.
